  2. N. T. Commands Back To The Basics

  3. Moral Laws: • Matthew 22: 34-40; • [36] Master, which is the great commandment in the law? • [37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. • [38] This is the first and great commandment. • [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. • [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

  4. Moral Laws: • I. Introduction: The Condensed Law • A. Love the Lord thy God; • B. Love thy neighbor as thyself;

  5. Moral Laws • Romans 13: 8-14; • [8] Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. • [9] For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. • [10] Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

  6. Moral Laws: • II. The continuation of moral laws in the New Testament;

  7. Moral Laws • Including but not limited to the following: • A. Love one another; • B. Thou shalt not commit adultery; • C. Thou shalt not kill; • D. Thou shalt not steal; • E. Thou shalt not bear false witness; • F. Thou shalt not covet; • G. Any other commandment, [that may not be specifically mentioned here] as relates to the general command to: love thy neighbour as thyself;

  8. Moral Laws: • Romans 13: 11-14; • [11] And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. • [12] The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. • [13] Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. • [14] But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

  9. Moral Laws: • By the way here are some fill in commands: • A. Wake up; Be alert; • B. Cast off the works of darkness, • C. Put on the armour of light. • D. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; • E. Let us us not walk or participate in rioting and drunkenness, • F. Let us not walk or participate in chambering and wantonness, • G. Let us not partake in strife and envying. • H. Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, • I. Do not make provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

  10. Moral Laws: • III. If we are under Grace; why are we still under the Law? • A. Moral Laws are so universal that they still apply today. • B. The ceremonial laws were specifically for the Jewish people; these have been repealed: By Grace • C. God’s grace and mercy does not eliminate the need for the law; they just remove the penalty of breaking the law.

  11. Moral Law • Ephesians 2: 8-9; • [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: • [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

  12. Moral Law • D. Grace is the source of our Salvation (from sin);

  13. Moral Law • Ephesians 2: 13-17; • [13] But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. • [14] For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; • [15] Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; • [16] And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: • [17] And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

  14. Moral Law • E. The ceremonial law prohibited Gentiles from worship in the Temple; • (This is pictured by the vale in the Holy Place) • Note: Mark 15: 38; • And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

  15. Moral Law • Ephesians 2: 19-22; • [19] Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; • [20] And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; • [21] In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: • [22] In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

  16. Moral Law • IV. The teachings of Christ is the foundation of the Church; • A. Jesus the chief corner stone commanded the Apostles; • B. The Apostles commanded the churches through letters and teaching; • C. The church continues to teach and preach the commands of God;

  17. Moral Laws: • Colossians 2: 8-12; • [8] Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. • [9] For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. • [10] And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: • [11] In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: • [12] Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

  18. Moral Laws: • Colossians 2: 13-16; • [13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; • [14] Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; • [15] And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. • [16] Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

  19. Moral Laws: • Colossians 2: 17-19; • [17] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. • [18] Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, • [19] And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

  20. Moral Laws: • Colossians 2: 20-23; • [20] Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, • [21] (Touch not; taste not; handle not; • [22] Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? • [23] Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

  21. Moral Laws: • Consider the following: The case of food restrictions; • A. God made everything vegetarian in the beginning; • B. Due to limited vegetation after the flood God allowed meat eating; • C. God restricted the Jewish diet. • 1. To test obedience; • 2. To give them a healthy advantage; (Health Benefits in their diet) • D. God lifted the dietary restrictions in the New Testament. • 1. Grace to the uncircumcised; • 2. Assumed self discipline of Christian Believers

  22. Moral Laws: • Conclusion: • A. Universal moral laws still apply; • B. Ceremonial laws were repealed; • C. We must police ourselves;
