Recap of Chapter 9 • Paul was truly saddened over the spiritual state of the Jews
Recap of Chapter 9 • Paul was truly saddened over the spiritual state of the Jews • God did NOT fail the Jews • Those who believe ARE the children of promise
Recap of Chapter 9 • Paul was truly saddened over the spiritual state of the Jews • God did NOT fail the Jews • Those who believe ARE the children of promise • Works CANNOT enable us to satisfy God • The proud desire to reach righteousness on their own, and their unwillingness to accept their need for a savior (equal status w/ Greeks) was a stumbling block for Israel
God’s Sovereign Choice • God has the right to choose some and reject others
God’s Sovereign Choice • God has the right to choose some and reject others • Sinners have no claim on God
God’s Sovereign Choice • God has the right to choose some and reject others • Sinners have no claim on God • But the prerogative is not exercised arbitrarily
God’s Sovereign Choice • God has the right to choose some and reject others • Sinners have no claim on God • But the prerogative is not exercised arbitrarily • God has turned to the Gentiles because Israel has sought her own righteousness and not His.
God’s Sovereign Choice • God has the right to choose some and reject others • Sinners have no claim on God • But the prerogative is not exercised arbitrarily • God has turned to the Gentiles because Israel has sought her own righteousness and not His. • Thus the invitation stands open to all
God’s Sovereign Choice • God has the right to choose some and reject others • Sinners have no claim on God • But the prerogative is not exercised arbitrarily • God has turned to the Gentiles because Israel has sought her own righteousness and not His. • Thus the invitation stands open to all • We (the gentiles) were a prophetically identified part of his plan (see Hosea 1:10 & 2:23)
Role of the Church • Israel had been called to be a blessing to ALL the world – not just themselves
Role of the Church • Israel had been called to be a blessing to ALL the world – not just themselves • A nation of Priests
Role of the Church • Israel had been called to be a blessing to ALL the world – not just themselves • A nation of Priests • The church is assigned to fulfill this role in this time – to be a blessing to all people / to be a nation of priests
God’s Strategy 25-29 I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved. . . for God's gifts and his call are irrevocable. (NLT)

Romans 10 God’s relentless love
10:1 Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is that the Jewish people might be saved.
10:1 Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is that the Jewish people might be saved. 2 I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. 3 For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Instead, they are clinging to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law. They won’t go along with God’s way. 4 For Christ has accomplished the whole purpose of the law. All who believe in him are made right with God.
