  2. Good MorningOctober 3, 2011 • Upcoming Dates: • Plot palooza project due on Thursday! Remember you must bring in a hard copy! You may submit via Edmodo as well . • Vocabulary Quiz on Friday and ‘Can Do’ assignment due Friday! • Write down your homework. • Make sure that you have the “upcoming dates” written down. • In your composition notebook: Write which type of point of view for the following excerpts: “I had a great time when I went to the zoo   with my class.  My favorite part was the monkey house.  I saw chimpanzees and orangutans.  I   even some baby apes.  After seeing everything at the zoo we got to go to McDonald's for lunch.”

Try This One… Timmy wanted to earn some money to buy a bike.  He decided that he could earn money by mowing lawns for his neighbors.  He went to Mr. O'Brien's house first.  Mr. O'Brien  told him he was hired!  Timmy started the next day.  By the end of the summer he had enough for his new bike.

  7. Tone • What is tone? Tone is the attitude of the writer toward his/ her subject matter, characters, and sometimes toward her readers. • Tones can either be positive , negative, or neutral. • If the author’s tone is negative, very likely the author’s attitude is negative too and vice versa.

  8. Tone Continued… In some states the trash on our roadsides is enough to make a person cry. Al l 50 states have tried many ways to reduce littering, from fines to television advertisements. One idea that is quickly catching on is “adopt a highway.” What’s the tone in this excerpt? Is the tone positive or negative? What key words gave you insight into the author’s attitude or tone?
