  1. Good Stewards1 Peter 4:10 The Lord has given us many responsibilities for which we will give account to Him on the last day

  2. Popular Thinking Today • I can think any way that I please • I can live my life any way that I choose • I can use my body any way that I desire • I can spend my money any way that I want • I can believe the Bible teaches whatever I desire

  3. Introduction • But as Christians, we dare not fall into such destructive thinking • The concept of being a good steward should help us understand that it is the Lord who has given us life and all things temporarily • And, one day, we will have to give an account whether we chose to behave according to His will or not

  4. Good Stewards • What is a steward? • Characteristics of a good steward • In what areas are we to be good stewards?

  5. What Is A Steward? • 1. oikonomos • (G3623) primarily denoted "the manager of a household or estate" (oikos, "a house," nemo, "to arrange"), "a steward" (such were usually slaves or freedmen), • From Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words

  6. Good Stewards Must Be Responsible • Luk 12:42 And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time?

  7. Good Stewards Must Be Faithful or Trustworthy • 1Co 4:1 Let a man regard us in this manner, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. • 1Co 4:2 In this case, moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy.

  8. Good Stewards Must Be Ready To Give Account To Their Master • Luk 12:43 "Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. • Luk 12:45 "But if that slave says in his heart, 'My master will be a long time in coming,' and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk;

  9. Good Stewards Must Be Ready To Give Account To Their Master • Luk 12:46 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

  10. In What Areas Are We To Be Good Stewards? • In the largest sense, all of our service to God is based on stewardship • As slaves of Christ, we are entrusted with all responsibilities of Christians to think, feel and live according to His Word knowing one day we will give account to Him • Specifically, the Scriptures do mention various areas in which we are to behave as good stewards

  11. Generally Our Entire Service To God Is A Matter of Stewardship • 1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

  12. How We Become Christians, Stewards, Slaves of Christ • Rom 6:17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, • Rom 6:18 and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

  13. How We Become Christians, Stewards, Slaves of Christ • Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? • Rom 6:2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?

  14. How We Become Christians, Stewards, Slaves of Christ • Rom 6:3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? • Rom 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

  15. Spiritual Talents • 1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

  16. Spiritual Talents • 1Pe 4:11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

  17. Spiritual Talents • Mat 25:14 "For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. • Mat 25:15 "To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.

  18. Spiritual Talents • Mat 25:20 "The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, 'Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.' • Mat 25:21 "His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.'

  19. Spiritual Talents • Mat 25:26 "But his master answered and said to him, 'You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. • Mat 25:27 'Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.

  20. Body • 1Co 6:18 Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. • 1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? • 1Co 6:20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

  21. Body • Rom 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. • Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

  22. Body • Mar 12:32 The scribe said to Him, "Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE BESIDES HIM; • Mar 12:33 AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONE'S NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."

  23. Body • Mar 12:34 When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions.

  24. Body • Rom 6:11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. • Rom 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,

  25. Body • Rom 6:13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

  26. Body • 2Ti 2:20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. • 2Ti 2:21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

  27. Body • 2Ti 2:22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

  28. Good Stewards • What is a steward? • Characteristics of a good steward • In what areas are we to be good stewards?

  29. Generally Our Entire Service To God Is A Matter of Stewardship • 1Pe 4:10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

  30. All Material Things • Act 4:24 And when they heard this, they lifted their voices to God with one accord and said, "O Lord, it is You who MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM,
