  2. Checkered Garter Snake • The Checkered Garter Snake scientific name is Thamnophismarcianus.

  3. Checkered Garter Snakes Features • Grows up to 18-24 inches • Narrow yellowish strips down both sides of the back and the head. • Is a threatened reptile. • Frequently migrates to pools of water in streams. • Hides in small animals burrows or deep crevices to avoid cold.

  4. Habitat • The Checkered Garter Snake lives in Kansas in wheat fields and along grasslands mainly in the area in the diagram below.

  5. Population • There are currently 3700 left in the wild. • They have 5 offspring at a time.

  6. Food chain • Our animal eats rats, mice, smaller snakes, and some insects. • It is eaten by hawks, larger snakes, owls, and falcons.

  7. Why its on the list • Its on the list because of habitatedistruction and the migration of predators to their area. • The were put on the list in 1998
