AIRE Gate-to-Gate Demonstrations • Air France B744, CDG to MIA April 6, 2010 • American Airlines B763, CDG to MIA, April 7, 2010 • Optimized procedures reduced fuel consumption and emissions for both flights • Shorter taxiing times, and reduced engine taxi at CDG and MIA • Continuous climb • During the oceanic cruise phase, optimum altitude and speed selected to minimize fuel consumption • Optimized descent and Tailored Arrivals into MIA

ASPIRE Gate-to-Gate Demonstrations • Asia and Pacific Initiative to Reduce Emissions (ASPIRE) green flight demonstrations • Air New Zealand B777 from Auckland to San Francisco in 2008 saved 3,500 kg of fuel and 11,200 kg of carbon emissions • Qantas A380 demonstration flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne in 2008 saved 8,900 kg of fuel and 28,000 kg of emissions • UAL B744, Sydney to San Francisco in 2008 saved 4800 kg of fuel and 15,000 kg of emissions • JAL B744 green flight from Honolulu to Osaka in 2009, saving approximately 4800 kg of fuel and 15,200 kg of carbon emissions • Singapore Airlines B744, Los Angeles to Singapore, via Tokyo in 2010 saved 10,686 kg of fuel and avoided 33,769 kg of carbon emissions

Planned FAA Support for SJU Initiatives • A380 Transatlantic Green Flights (FAA Portion of Trial) • Air France and FAA developed operational surface procedures to enable A380 reduced engine taxi at JFK • AF calls for clearance 20 minutes prior to push back • When ready, AF contacts ramp control for push back and start up • During push back, ramp control contacts FAA JFK Operations Manager for estimated taxi-time from ramp to take-off • Ramp control relays estimated taxi time to the flight crew • Flight crew decides whether or not to taxi on 2 engines • Conduct at least one trial (for surface movements) per week during a 6 to 8 weeks period between November and December 2010

Planned FAA Support for SJU Initiatives (Cont.) • A380 Transatlantic Green Flights • FAA supports the A380 Transatlantic Green Flight trials • Trial procedure can be applied twice a week • Ground trials to start in early December 2010 • Draft procedure was issued October 21, 2010 • Procedure was successfully applied the same evening • FAA supervisor gave a taxi duration of 10 minutes taxi • The actual taxi time was more, but the estimate helped flight crew make the right decision: to start up directly with 4 engines

  8. Demonstration Data Needs • Purpose of Data Exchange: • Support the standardization of benefits across demonstrations • Support benefits validation for automation development • May be a requirement of the safety process • Need the information requested for surface, terminal and oceanic
