  1. Exodus 15:11 (NIV) • 11 Who among the gods • is like You, Lord? • Who is like You — • majestic in holiness, • awesome in glory, • working wonders?

  2. Romans 8:28 (NIV) • And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

  3. “We know nothing like the divine holiness. It stands apart, unique, • unapproachable, incomprehensible and unattainable. The natural man is blind to it. He may fear God’s power and admire His wisdom, but His holiness he cannot even imagine.”

  4. Isaiah 6:1-5 (NIV) • 1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of His robe filled the temple.

  5. 2 Above Him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:

  6. “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; • the whole earth is full of His glory.” • 4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

  7. 5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

  8. Hebrews 12:14 (NIV) • Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

  9. Religion is not really life changing • Gallup poll

  10. "that we can add Christ to our lives, but not subtract sin." • Patrick Morley • It is a change in belief without a change in behavior.

  11. Hebrews 12:14 (NIV) • Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.

  12. Habakkuk 1:13a (NIV) • 13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; • you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.

  13. 1 Peter 1:14-16 (NIV) • 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

  14. 1. If God is so holy that He cannot even gaze at sin, how can sinful people like us have a relationship with Him?

  15. 2. If trusting in Christ’s work on the cross blots out our sin before God and we are holy in His sight, why do we keep on sinning?

  16. Three stages of holiness: • Justification: Positional holiness • Sanctification: Practical holiness • Glorification: Permanent holiness

  17. Romans 7:15 (NIV) • 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

  18. Two reasons change doesn’t stick: • We fail to substitute good behaviors for bad behavior • Second one: We fail to persevere

  19. Ephesians 4:17-24 (NIV) • 17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

  20. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

  21. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

  22. 20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.

  23. 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds;

  24. 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

  25. Put off your old self • Be made new in the attitude of your mind • Put on the new self

  26. 17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts.

  27. Put off your old self • Be made new in the attitude of your mind • Put on the new self • Persevere!

  28. Romans 2:4 (NIV) • 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

  29. Hebrews 13:4 (NIV) • 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
