Vrellis’ museum of wax effigies • STUDENT’S BOOK • UNIT 5 • PRESENTATION BY SEMINA (6TH GRADE)
ACTIVITY • Your friend Susan from Great Brittan is going to visit Ioannina in west Greece, and wants to know more about the places she can see. Last month you visited the Museum of National History and you got its leaflet. Send your friend a letter to give her information about the museum.
The leaflet • The National History Museum is in Bizani, Ioannina. In the winter it is open from October 1st to March 31st. The opening times are 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. daily. In the summer it is open from April 1st to September 30th and the opening times are 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. daily. Visitors can’t smoke, take photographs or use a video camcorder in the museum.
Your letter • Hi Susan! How are you? I hope you are well. I’m so glad to hear from you. Ah, yes… about the National History Museum… I have lots of information to tell you. This museum was built by Paul Vrellis in February 1983 and is also known as PaulVrellisMuseum of Wax Effigies. It’s the best known wax museum in Greece and is built according to the traditional, local, fortress-type architectural style of 18th-century.The wax effigies of the museum are displayed in life size, included in a faithful representation of the environment of their age and revive forms of the local history. The visitor moves along mountains, houses, caves, churches, and alleys, following a non-circular but endless course, ingeniously devised and arranged. Well, that’s all for now. If you need more information do not hesitate to contact me. Yours, Semina
