  1. The Invention of Self-Propelled Vehicles A cooperative project by Aiden Michael JR Gage Mr. Drake

  2. THE INVENTION • Karl Benz built the first modern car in 1886. • Before 1676– they were toys for emperors. • Then came along steam powered vehicles . • 439 years ago vehicles powered them selves [there were no motors, people power them]. • A simple gunpowder engine was the first engine. • The Ford Model T was built in 1908. Trains came before the first Ford car. In London underground had a steam train in 1863.

  4. The Old Days Modern cars were made in 1886 by Karl Benz. The Duryea brothers made 13 cars by hand in 1896. Henry Ford sold the most cars in 1910 using mass production so cars were affordable.

  5. How are they made now? Materials:aluminum, steel, and fiber. Parts: roof, mirrors, doors, bumpers, headlights, and hoods.

  6. How are they made now? Today cars are made in factories. Producers must first plan, then design a car. They build prototypes, test them, and then assemble them. See more at 5min.com Play around at the Toyota Children’s Website Build your own at Ford.com

  7. Problems • At first horses were spooked by the loud sounds cars made. There were many accidents caused by spooked horses. • Cars emit a green house gas which is bad for nature. • Car thieves steal your car and take it to a chop shop. If your car keeps getting stolen or if you keep getting in a crash your insurance bill goes up. • AC can break down. Let’s say you’re driving somewhere and it`s hot and your AC is not working-then what are you going to do?

  8. Problems Manufacturers must do recalls when parts of the car are not working. Toyota had trouble with its engines and brakes locking up and recalled many cars. The price of gas keeps rising. People cannot afford it.

  9. Other Inventions It Lead To The invention of cars lead to the bumper sticker, stop lights and the car wash. In 1895 the first car race was held between the Duryea Brothers and Karl Benz. Some other inventions came along too, like the GPS, paved roads, special tires for rough terrain, traffic cones, speed limits, speed guns, head lights, road sensors, rumble zones, traffic cameras and the license plate.

  10. The acceptance Today the Toyota Camry is being protested against because of the price limit. The reason the price is going up is because of the economy. When Henry Ford was just starting to make cars he received death letters from people saying their horses got scared when a car zoomed by.

  11. The acceptance After a while towns started to come together because vehicles could carry more people and luggage. Some people were so inspired by the idea of the car that they helped Henry Ford make the first successful manufacturing conveyer belt.

  12. The acceptance At first women could not drive because men thought women were to weak. When the first car came out there was no age limit so as long as you could control the stirring wheel and see out the window you could drive.
