  1. Technology Readiness (A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single device) National Forum on Educational Statistics February 11, 2013 Wes Bruce, Chair, PARCC Technology Committee

  2. Tablet Clarifications:PARCC will support tablets… • Supporting full sized iPads - version 2 or later with iOS6.x installed (Guided Access • Also supporting Android, Chrome, or Windows tablets configured to meet security guidelines. • PARCC is committed to being device agnostic. We want students to be able to use the same technology for assessment that they regularly use for instruction. • However, there is a screen size minimum (9.5 inch or larger)to ensure that items display consistently. The 7-9 inch class tablets (iPad Mini, Nooks, Kindles) will not be supported for 2014-2015. • While keyboards are being strongly recommended and research is being done to determine if keyboards will be required for tablets to ensure fairness to students when producing content. • There is no definitive research on the student use of tablet devices either for instruction or for assessment.

  3. Devices Reported in First TRT Snapshot as Meeting or Exceeding New Guidelines This shows the extent of the XP issue facing schools!

  4. In January the Smarter Balanced and PARCC specification were activated in the Technology Readiness Tool. • For the first time schools, districts and states can see the gaps • Important to probe into the data • Feb 15 data snapshot – Consortium • Tool is open and states and districts should used it for their own policy and decision making purposes • Now what questions should be coming. • Next snapshot and consortia report is June 15th
