  2. What is the Twilight School? • The Twilight School is an alternative educational program associated with the regular comprehensive school. • The term “twilight” refers to the modified time and instructional circumstances necessary to accommodate student learning, and not necessarily the to the time of day.

  3. What are the objectives? Consistent with the philosophy of ECHS, the main objectives of the Twilight School include the following: • To provide all students an opportunity for academic success in a positive, inviting learning environment • To improve the learning environment and overall school climate

  4. How does it work? • Students will be assisted and tutored by certified teachers. • Progress will be determined based on student performance within the Personal Education Plan (PEP). • Academic achievement with emphasis placed on the AHSGE. • Students will use computer based programs (A+) to recover and receive credit.

  5. Who will design the Personal Education Plan (PEP)? • In coordination with the counselor, the twilight instructors and twilight administrator will design the PEPs.  • The plan will take into account the entire record of the student, their courses needed to graduate, and will be approved by the principal.

  6. When will the Twilight School meet? • The Twilight School is in session every school day from 4:00 to 8:00 PM • Changes in times based on curricular, facility or personnel considerations may be possible, with notice.

  8. The Twilight Handbook Attendance • Daily attendance is mandatory and will be managed by the Twilight Administrator • Students are only allowed 4 total absences, and are not allowed any unexcused absences. • Absences may only be excused by a parent note or a Doctor’s note. Parent notes may only excuse two absences.

  9. The Twilight Handbook Materials needed by students: • Copy Paper (one pack) to be turned in by the first Friday (March 18) • Flash Drive (recommend 2GB or better). Students should try to obtain one of these as soon as possible • Students should come to school each evening prepared for instruction (with writing instrument and a tablet / notebook) • The administration recommends that each student maintain a notebook for their courses

  10. The Twilight Handbook Discipline • Handled on a case-by-case basis, and can result in a “suspension” (removed for the remainder of the evening or prohibited from attending the following school day). • Any behavior warranting a second suspension will result in removal from the program.

  11. The Twilight Handbook Uniform Policy • Students must follow the Escambia County Uniform Code • Students who are not in compliance with the dress code will not be allowed to attend for that evening (equal to one suspension). • Students who do not wear their clothing properly (sagging pants, hats, hoods, etc.) will also be subject to suspension

  12. The Twilight Handbook Electronic Devices • County Policy states that students may not be in possession of an electronic device during school hours • Students may purchase a locker in which they may store their possessions during Twilight School for $5. • Students found in possession of an electronic device during Twilight hours will receive 1 day of “suspension” from Twilight.

  13. The Twilight Handbook • The Twilight School Administrator and the High School Administration reserve the right to remove any student from the program for failure to comply with the policies and procedures explained in the handbook. • The Twilight Program operates under the direct supervision of the Escambia County Board of Education.
