  2. Welcome Parent Orientation Night

  3. All of My Hats... • Teacher, mom, grandma, wife, committee member, Technology coach, K-2 Science Club.

  5. My Philosophy • Students are continually challenged • Curriculum will meet all needs • Safe environment • Students responsibility to learn • Learning IS exciting (fun)

  6. Schedule • Monday –Music • Tuesday- Round-up • Wednesday – P.E. and Library (wear tennis shoes) • Thursday – Computer Lab (Microsoft Word) • Friday – Art • Lunch -11:10-11:55 • We have recess first and eat at 11:30 • Recess – 9:55 – 10:15 Please send a snack and a water bottle for your child.

Nuts and Bolts - Curriculum • Reading "Some people there are who being grown forget the horrible task of learning to read.  It is perhaps the greatest single effort that the human mind  undertakes, and he must do it as a child." John Steinbeck (received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962) • Writing • Math • Science, Social Studies, Health

State Standards • Our curriculum is aligned with the NEW Common Core Standards and the State Standards for Social Studies and Science • The students are given the opportunities to learn the standards • Assessment will be based on your child’s progress with the standards using rubrics, projects etc.

  9. Homework • Homework Bags • Books - reading strategy guide • Direction Sheet-book related activities - online • Math Activities – online (most of the time) • Reading - Wranglin’ Reader Program • 30 minutes a day (5 days)– • you must initial the Homework Report Sheet

  10. More Nuts and Bolts • Queen Bee or King Bee for the Week • Birthdays • Book Orders • Supply donations - $5.00 a month. • T-Shirts - $6.00 (cash only, please) • Lunches - $2.10 • Communication 696-5846/e-mail

  11. Volunteers • Thank you • Names can be added to the list • New calendar will be posted • Need Volunteer for: • Chili Cook-off • Field Trip Volunteers

  12. School Tax Credit • You can claim $200 per year ($400 if married filing jointly) • Complete form for receipt. • Designate that the money be Second Grade Extra-curricular activities • We will use the money for Field Trips to enhance our units of study!!

  13. Field Trips • Arizona Science Center (Phoenix) • Town of Oro Valley • Zoo • Tucson Historic Museum • Disney Animal movie in May

  14. Other Special Events Second Grade Musical - April 26th Thanksgiving Pot Luck Feast Tuesday – November 22nd Pet Day More information about these and other events will be sent home.
