  1. Intertidal zone By: brianna and caleb

  2. Bell ringer • What do you think the Intertidal Zone is? • Write it in your notebook.

  3. Notes on the intertidal zone. • The intertidal zone is known as the littoral zone, in marine aquatic environments is the area of the foreshore and seabed that is exposed to the air at low tide and covered in at high tide. • The intertidal zone has some animals but they are small. • The reasons for this is because 1st is the supply of water they need to survive. Secondly because of the wave action around the shore can wash them away. Thirdly, because it has high exposure to the sun and, the temperature can range from very hot to very cold. Lastly , the salinity is much higher because of the salt trapped in the rock.

  4. The three parts of the intertidal zone. • . High tide zone (upper mid- littoral ) • . Middle tide zone ( lower mid- littoral) • . Low tide zone ( lower littoral ) • The high tide zone is flooded during high tide only, and is highly saline environment. • The middle tide zone is submerged and flooded for approximately equal periods of the time per-tide cycle. • Low tide is submerged most of the time. It’s only exposed at the end of low tide and for longer periods of time during extremely low tides.

  5. Class work !! • You will be put into groups of 3 or 4 • Create a flayer describing the intertidal zone , what it’s used for and the part of it and why it’s important . • Here are some website to use • http://www.thewildclassroom.com/biomes/intertidal.html • http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/life-at-the-egde-of-the-sea/introduction/3048/

  6. Homework • Write a half to a whole page about what you have learn about the intertidal zone. List why it’s important and the parts of it.
