  1. 27 Employees, 3 Crews, 1 Forest How to assign the employees to surveying crews for a nine-week period. Group Members: Lisa, Tim, Xinhua, Matt B., Laura, Zi

  2. Overview & Requirements • 27 employees – 3 crews of 9 • 9 weeks of surveying • Each person must have a turn as the data recorder • Crews should be remixed each week

  3. Why is this statistical? • Randomization • Permutations • Design ideas • Constraints

  4. Solution • Everyone writes names (numbers) on piece of paper. • Choose (randomly) the recorders for each week. • Non-recorders are randomly assigned to a crew each week.

  6. Tools & Information • Tools • Knowledge of randomization • Could use a computer, but a hat suffices • Information • Employer • Other statisticians/forest surveyors • Basic design book (e.g. Gary’s)

  7. Thoughts & Ideas • Assignment of recorders on first day • Ease of recording – should people do some of that each week? • Abilities of scientists • Personality conflicts • People missing, sick, etc.
