The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence • In order to incorporate the "swarming defense" and "relentless pursuit" philosophy in our defensive team, it must be a consistent point of emphasis in all areas of our coaching. This type of play must be emphasized in all drills, by all our coaches and throughout the entire football program. Pursuit to the football must be discussed and stressed in individual and team meetings. The concept of "running to the ball" will not be accepted by players if it is only given lip service.

In conclusion, we hope these concepts give you the coach, some ideas on how to implement and set up your Team to better defend the zone read and option and master those fundamentals with your players. We understand that there are many different philosophies that can apply to the coaching the 4-2-5 defense. • We just wanted to share a few concepts with you in hopes that you can better prepare your own players.
