Slippery Slope • Slippery Slope- a fallacy in which a person asserts that some event must inevitably follow from another without any argument for the inevitability of the event in question • Example: Event X has occurred, therefore, event Y will inevitably happen • “You can never give anyone a break. If you do, they’ll walk all over you.”
If the baby begins to walk, then he will have to do chores • One small thing will lead to dire things

The Crucible • Act 1- pg. 170: Abigail: “Uncle we did dance…but they’re speakin’ of witchcraft. Betty’s not witched.” Parris: “Abigail, I cannot go before the congregation when I know you have not opened with me. What did you do with her in the forest?” • Parris assumes that, solely because Abigail was dancing with other girls in the forest, she was practicing witchcraft
The Crucible Cont. • Act 1- pg. 169 Susanna: “Aye, sir, he have been searchin’ his books since he left you, sir. But he bid me tell you, that you might look to unnatural things for the cause of it.” • Just because Betty is in a “coma”, they assume she is a victim of witchcraft
