  2. What is an Amphibian? • Part of Animal Kingdom • Has a backbone • Cold blooded • No scales

  3. Undergoes metamorphosis • Ex) butterflys • Have gills for part of life • Lives part of its life in water • Hatch from eggs

  4. 3 types of Amphibians Newts and Salamanders • Frogs and Toads • Caecilian

  5. Frogs and Toads Frogs Toads Have “poison” glands for defense Live in trees and in borrows like frogs • Webbed feet for swimming • Strong legs for climbing and digging • Great hearing

  6. Newts and Salamanders Newt Salamander No claws Look like eels with legs Similar to newts Not poisonous • Tail • Can regenerate body parts and organs • Larva have teeth and gills • Many produce poisons as defense

  7. Caecilian • No limbs • Have teeth! • Resemble snakes • Borrowers • Dark light vision only
