  2. JOB DESCRIPTION Cosmetologists provide personal care and enhancement services on the hair, skin and nails that include: shampooing, cutting, styling, coloring, perming, apply makeup, dress wigs, perform hair removal, and manicure hands and feet.

Skills Learned at LCCTC HAIR CARE • Cleansing/Conditioning • Cutting • Styling • Perming/Relaxers • Color Service • Cleanse, cut, style of wigs NAIL CARE • File, cleanse, care of cuticle • Massage of hands/feet • Polish application/Nail Art SKIN CARE • Cleanse • Massage • Apply makeup • Remove unwanted hair

WORKING CONDITIONS Working in a salon is a physically active occupation with most duties being performed in a standing position You will be working directly with the general public in a salon and employees are usually required to follow a dress code or be in uniform. A cosmetologist should expect to be a productive team member, be creative, and possess good communication skills.

  5. EDUCATION The Cosmetology Program at Lawrence Co. CTC provides students with good attendance the 1250 hours of training necessary to take the Cosmetology State Board Exam. Upon passing the exam, students will receive their license. Continuing education is advised due to changes in fashion trends, product knowledge and new techniques.

  6. WAGES Cosmetologists are usually paid based on a commission or may be paid an hourly wage, and being tipped for your service by clients is not unusual. Salary typically increases with experience , expanded client base, and adding additional responsibilities like management.
