Current ACOFP Status Update • ACOFP Nationwide • Represent Approximately 23,000 Family Medicine DOs in Active Practice as of 2012 • 1,400 Family Practice Residents • 10,000 Family Medicine Club Students • 38% (22,363 as of 2012) of the actively practicing AOA membership (69,429 as of 2012) • Indiana ACOFP Members • Approximately 137 DO’s in Active Family Medicine Practice • 17 Residents in 2 Osteopathic Family Practice Residency Programs • 6 Students in the ACOFP Chapter

  5. ACOFP Mission • The mission of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians is to promote excellence in osteopathic family medicine through quality education, visionary leadership and responsible advocacy

  6. Advocacy • Representing 23,000 practicing Family Medicine osteopathic physicians, ACOFP is a formidable force for change. For the upcoming year, our strong advocacy activities in Washington, D.C. will continue to focus on the following six objectives: • SGR (Sustainable Growth Rate) formula and payment reform • Monitor “Medical Home” and “ACO” (Accountable Care Organization) development • PLI Reform • Support funding for Family Medicine residency programs that use volunteer faculty • Promote and Protect Osteopathic physicians ability to care for patients and to provide access to quality Osteopathic medical care • Retain funding for Title VII Family Medicine Programs • ACOFP communicates legislative issues to members through my Friday e-mail BLOG, OFP Journal, e-bulletins, state and national meetings • ACOFP Committees review Federal and State Legislation that affects the practice of Osteopathic Family Medicine

Education • Opportunities to improve patient care and earn CME credits are perhaps your most important Member benefits. • 2012 ACOFP Intensive Update and Board Review in Osteopathic Family Medicine – September 21-23, 2012 in Rosemont, IL at the Intercontinental Hotel close to Chicago O,Hare airport • AOA/ACOFP Annual Convention (OMED) – September 30 - October 4, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Mandalay Bay Hotel • 50th Annual ACOFP Convention and Scientific Seminar- March 21-24, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Cosmopolitan Hotel • “Osteopathic Family Physician” peer-reviewed journal • Procedural Workshops on Dermatology Skills, Joint Injections, and Spirometry • On-Line CME programs, webcasts, OMT Procedural videos and I-phone apps, CDs, DVDs, Blueprints for Building a Medical Home – 8 part series by Carol Henwood DO, FACOFP • Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC) Beginning in 2013 and Maintenance of State Licensure (MOL) Beginning in ???

ACOFP Statement on Unified GME Accreditation System • The American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians is supportive of the American Osteopathic Association’s continued work toward reaching a positive resolution to this important Graduate Medical Education issue for the benefit of osteopathic professionals, our residents and students, and the preservation of the osteopathic profession as a distinctive practice of medicine.

Leadership – Give back to the Osteopathic Community • Participate in the ACOFP Physician Leadership Institute – began OMED 2012 • 3 areas of concentration – Advocacy, Academic, or Administrative Leadership • Certified Physician Leader (CPL) awarded • ACOFP Preceptor/Mentor • Guide students and residents through their osteopathic education • ACOFP Fellow or Distinguished Fellow • Earn higher recognition for your dedication, experience, and contributions to your association and profession • Author for Osteopathic Family Physician Journal • Volunteer for National ACOFP Committees and Task Forces
