  3.  We live in a world full of information. Due to our linguistic limitations, only some of this information is accessible to us.

  5. Vorwort But language provides us access to more than raw information; it provides an entry to a new culture, rich and varied views of our world.

  7. Réamhfhocal The purpose of this evening is to examine how ICT can play a role in acquiring new languages, exploring new cultures and translation.

  8. Introduzione Uno degli aspetti da dover prendere in considerazione è l’onnipresenza e uso della lingua inglese nella nostra vita quotidiana e soprattutto nel mondo cibernetico. Questo può generare un certo senso di “arroganza culturale” verso una moltitudine di utenti non di lingua inglese. Qualsiasi ruolo che ICT può offrire nel riconoscere tale supremazia della lingua anglo-sassone dovrebbe essere accolto con entusiasmo.

  9. Introduzione One aspect to be considered is the primacy of English in cyberspace – among other places – and the cultural arrogance it engenders. Any role ICT can play in countering this sense of superiority should be welcomed.
