  2. ОТКРЫТЫЙ УРОК • Подготовлен учителем английского языка Кольчевской О.В. для 7 класса «А» Дата проведения -01 февраля 2012 г.

  3. ЦЕЛЬ • Праздник проводится в качестве завершающего урока или внеклассного мероприятия по теме “Scotland”. Неформальная обстановка, наличие костюмов, элемент соревнования, шанс проявить эрудицию, декламация стихов, предварительный конкурс творческих работ учащихся дают учителю прекрасную возможность проконтролировать и систематизировать полученные учащимися знания по теме, расширяют их общий кругозор и прививают интерес к истории, литературе и самобытной культуре Шотландии.

  4. Scotland is the second largest part of the UK • Today we’re going to speak about this picturesque country, its history, culture and its proud people.

  5. THE THISTLE • What is the national symbol of the country?

  6. THE UNICORN • What is the national emblem of Scotland? (the Unicorn, a myth animal)

  7. THE CROSS OF ST. ANDREW • This is the Union Jack, the flag of the UK. What are the colours of the Scottish one? (white and blue, an X-shaped white cross on a blue background) • Find the Scottish Flag in the picture.

  8. A BIT OF GEOGRAPHY • The highest mountain is Ben Nevis – 1343m • The rivers are: the Clyde, the Tweed • The largest lake is Loch Lomond

  9. NESSY • The most famous loch is Loch Ness • They say ahuge animal Nessy lives there.

  10. THE HIGHLANDS • The country is divided into Highlands and Lowlands. • “My Heart’s in the Highlands, My Heart’s is not here…” Robert Burns A long-haired Highlander cow – a “coo”

  11. THE CAPITAL • Edinburgh is divided into the Old Town and the New Town. • It is an ancient city where you can touch history on every step.

  12. EDINBURGH • Practically every building has a tale to tell.

  14. THE ROYAL MILE • A line of streets running from the Castle to Holyrood Palace – the Queen’s residence is called the Royal Mile. • Holyrood Palace

  15. GLASGOW • It ia the largest and the busiest city of Scotland.

  16. THE KILT • The Scots are special people. They wear kilts, have clans, are proud of their military tattoo… • A kilt is a piece of cloth 7 or 9 metres long worn only by men.

THE BAGPIPE • A national musical instrument • The Scots play a kind of music which seems rather unusual to us. • A joke: A Scotsman is telling his friend about his visit to London. “These Englishmen are such strange people. One of them knocked at the door of my room at 3 o’clock in the morning and screamed angrily. “What did you do?” asks his friend. “Absolutely nothing. Went on playing my bagpipe”.

FAMOUS PEOPLE • James Watt, the inventor of a steam engine; • David Livingstone, an explorer, the discoverer of the Victoria Falls in Africa, one of the greatest in the world; • Alexander Bell, the inventor of the telephone, was born in Scotland; • Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of penicillin – the first antibiotic; • Allan Pinkerton, the world first detective;

  19. SCOTTISH HEROES • Scotland has a heroic history full of long fight for independence against England. Great Scottish leaders William Wallace “Braveheart” and Robert the Bruce were daring and fearless warriors whose aim was to free their country.

  20. ROYAL SCOTS • Mary Queen of Scots is known to you if you are fond of history. She claimed for the British throne and was imprisoned for 19 years and later executed by her cousin Queen Elizabeth I. • Mary’s son James VI became the king of England and Scotland in 1603 (James I Stuart); • Prince Charles Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) wasn’t a great political figure but is still remembered as a man who fought against England but was defeated

  21. WORLD-KNOWN WRITERS • Edinburgh is a real literary capital. • Sir Walter Scott was the author of many historical novels: “Ivanhoe”, “Rob Roy”, “Quentin Durward” • Monuments to Walter Scott in Edinburgh and Glasgow

ROBERT BURNS • Robert Burns is the National Poet and a Hero of Scotland. • Scots all over the world celebrate his birthday on the 25-th of January as a national holiday or Burns Night. • Burns sang the beauty and glory of his native land, true love and friendship. • People took his poetry in their hearts.

HIS BEST POEMS • His best poems are: “Auld Lang Syne”, “My Heart’s in the Highlands”, “The Scottish Glory”, “A red, red rose” and others. • These lines were written about him: “Let kings and countries rise and fall, This world has many turns. But brightly beams above them all The star of Robbie Burns”.

  25. R.L.STEVENSON • He is the author of “The Treasure Island”, “Kidnapped”, “A Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”. • Stevenson was also a poet. He wrote poems for children. • R.L.Stevenson was born in Edinburgh but he died and was buried on the island in the Pacific Ocean. His poem “Requiem” was written on his grave.

  26. HEATHER ALE • R.L.Stevenson wrote a wonderful poem about the history of Scotland. It’s called “Heather Ale”. It is about proud and courageous people who preferred death to dishonour and didn’t let the enemy know their national secret. “But now in vain is the torture, Fire shall never avail: Here dies in my bosom The secret of Heather Ale”

  27. SIR A.CONAN DOYLE • Edinburgh is also connected with the name of Sir Conan Doyle who was born, brought up and later studied medicine here. The city is proud of one more unusual monument – to a literary character Sherlock Holmes. • This one is in London in Baker Street

  28. A QUOTATION • “He who has never seen Scotland does not really know Great Britain”.

  29. THE FINAL SONG • “My Bonnie is over the ocean, My Bonnie is over the sea, My Bonnie is over the ocean, Oh, bring back my Bonnie to me”.
