  2. Firing on Fort Sumter • This event occurred in the year of 1861. • This happened in Fort Sumter, lying in the harbor off the city of Charleston, South Carolina. • The Confederacy won the battle, because the Union was not armed with weapons.

  3. Battle of Antietam • The Battle of Antietam occurred in 1862. • This event happened in Sharpsburg, Maryland. • The Confederacy won this battle. This is also known as bloodiest-single day battle of the war.

  4. Battle of Gettysburg • Battle of Gettysburg happened in the year of 1863. • This event happened in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. • The Union Won. Was one of the turning points..

  5. Siege of Vicksburg • Siege of Vicksburg happened in the year of 1863. • This took place in Vicksburg, Mississippi near the Mississippi River and a Champion Hill. • Confederate won. • Was one of the turning points..

  6. Emancipation Proclamation • This happened in 1863. • This occurred in Washington D.C. • Union won. The Emancipation Proclamation declared that all persons held as slaves, within the rebellious states are, and henceforward shall be free. This only applies to states that seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states.

  7. Assassination of Lincoln • This event happened in 1865. • Occurred at Washington, D.C. at the Ford’s Theatre. • The shooter was John Wilkes Booth, who was a famous actor.

  8. Lee’s Surrender at Appomattox Court House • This happened in the year of 1865. • Occurred in Appomattox Virginia. • Union won.
