  1. 1.) Wear personal protective equipment : latex gloves, lab coat, and safety glasses. Replace worn gloves. 2.) Turn off power and disconnect all power and com cables to the instrument that is to be decontaminated. This will ensure that you avoid any electrical shock hazards which may exist.   2. 3.) Mix a 20% sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) and tap water in a small bucket with a total solution not to exceed a half gallon. (If beach is not acceptable by the lab, the lab personnel can provide an acceptable decontaminate or Rely-On can be used) 4.) Remove / cut all externally visible tubing from the instrument and dispose of properly into Biohazard waste containers supplied by the laboratory. (see following examples) Wear protective gloves, gown and eye glasses at all times during this decontamination procedure!   3. Cut all tubing from the back of the instrument and dispose in biohazard waste receptacles provided by the laboratory. Wear protective gloves, gown and eye glasses at all times during this decontamination procedure! Remove tubing at rear -dispose of properly Rev: 8/25/2005 Page 3 of 7

  4. 5.) All instrument waste containers and supply bottles should be disposed of in biohazard waste containers. Cut away any/all tubing to free the containers. Waste and Supply Bottles 6.) Rinse all external surfaces of the container using a small sponge or cloth with the bleach solution and water mixed as described above. Allow the solution to set for 15 minutes and wipe with a clean dry cloth or paper towel. Dispose of properly in a Biohazard Waste Container. Rev: 8/25/2005 Page 4 of 7

  5. Probe tip removal. Remove all 5 probe tips and cut the tubing away. • Use an allen wrench size(s) between 1.5mm to 2.0mm to loosen the probes and pull them down thru the adapter to cut the tubing off just above the probe top. • Discard the probes into the biohazard receptacles provided by the laboratory.   6. 7.) Decontaminate the surfaces of the PC, the monitor, the monitor stand, and the printer. 8.) Dispose of the keyboard, hand held scanner, and… Rev: 8/25/2005 Page 6 of 7
