A lot of important things happened in the 60’s • The Vietnam War • The assassination of President John F Kennedy • Martin Luther King Jr stance on African American Civil • The first man on the moon • The Movement of the Free Moving People of America (Hippy) • The Women and African American Civil Right movements These are just a few examples of why the 1960’s was an influential time in history. These events strongly impacted the media during this time.

6. Breakfast at Tiffany’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a film made in 1961 that stars Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peppard. The film is about a young New York elegant women who becomes very interested in a young writer who moved into her apartment building. Today the film is considered historically classic.

8. Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner Guess Who’s coming to dinner is a 1967 film that started Katharine Hepburn and Sidney Potiter. The movie is about a young girl who comes back from a vacation, engaged to a African America successful doctor. Her family is in shock and when the final come to grips with the engagement, their daughter invites her future in-laws to dinner. This leads to an eventful evening. Sadly some people at the time thought no one would want to see the movie because the lead role was a black man. Despite all the harsh criticism the movie is one of the best from its time.

10. 1960’s Radio The radio in the 1960’s was very important during this time. It was epically important in the lives of teenagers. At this time almost half of the artiest on the radio were African Americans. Many people believed that the radio was scandalous, because it lead to interracial mixing. News articles said that the radio at this time was “Alive and Kicking”

11. 1960’s News Broadcasting In the 1960’s news broadcasting was not very popular. At the time media was very sexist and there were no women news anchors. It was very hard to to film live events because of all the large equipment. The assassination of President John F Kennedy was broadcasted live. News grew very quickly because of the assassination.

13. The Dick Van Dyke Show The Dick Van Dyke Show was a show that ran from 1961-1966. The show stared Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. The shows plot was about the life of a comedy television writer and his adventures at the office and at home with his young wife, son, and neighbors. The show was filmed in black and white, and won 22 out of the 26 awards which it was nominated. Throughout the show Mary Tyler Moore was only allowed to wear pants in one scene per episode because the producers did not think they were feminine. The show was very popular and still is today.

14. The Carol Burnett Show The Carol Burnett Show was a television series that featured comedy skits performed by Carol Burnett and her regular co-stars. It premiered on September 11, 1967, the series was filmed in color, and the show became very well known for all of the many guest stars. The show went on for 11 seasons and produced 287 episodes. The series ended on March 29, 1978. The show chagned television forever. TV Guide and Time Magazine said that it was one of the best shows of all time. The show has some of the most memorable sketches of all time and is still loved today in reruns.

15. The Munster’s The Munster’s was a television show that originally broadcasted from 1964-1966. The plot was about a family of friendly monsters and their misadventures, and they never realized why people thought they were so strange. The show was filmed in black and white. It had a chance to film in color, but it would have cost the producers an additional $10,000 per episode so they kept it in black and white. Even though the show only went on for only two seasons, it was very popular and is still is watched today.

16. Conclusion Throughout the 1960’s film and television was evolving with African Americans becoming leads in major motion pictures along with films being produced in color. Film and television throughout the 60’s improved and changed the entertainment business forever.
