We concluded that Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) phase, season of MJO occurrence and concurrent El Nino (EN)/La Nina (LN)/neutral regimes were responsible for altering MJO teleconnections over western North America. • - 48 composites of MJO periods were constructed based on three critical factors: MJO phase, season, and concurrent EN/LN/neutral regimes. • Graphics illustrate Z200 and precipitation rate anomalies for conditions under which California - Desert Southwest (CA-DSW) region experienced most positive and most negative precipitation anomalies – similar analyses were performed from Alaska down to through CA-DSW.
