New Network Design New Transport • 516 route miles of dark fiber • 4 new PoPs (plus 32 AofA) and 8 new line amplifier sites New Equipment • Cisco routers (7609/Sup720 upstate, 12410 in NYC) • Cisco DWDM (15454 with ROADM) • Gigabit Ethernet as the primary transport New Capabilities • Backbone bandwidth increase (OC-12 to multiple GigE) • Partial mesh to reduce the impact of a single failure • Optical transport between any of the PoPs, 32 lambdas at up to 10 Gbps

New Connection Options Lambda connections: • Switch or Router through a transponder • Switch or Router with DWDM pluggable optics • Metro CWDM or DWDM through a transponder • Metro WDM with pluggable optics (someday!) • SAN switch through a transponder R&E IP connections: • GigE over ‘bare’ fiber • Colocated switch or router • Metro CWDM or DWDM • CLEC lit services (Ethernet or SONET) • Combined R&E and commercial over a single Ethernet local loop
