Do you like to read books? • Books in our life • 1.to play an important part in people’s life (books, reading) • 2.to be fond of reading (many people) • 3.favourite books (fantasy, fiction, adventure, detective, novel) • 4.to expand the mind • 5.to help(to solve a lot of life problems; to learn more about other countries and peoples of the world; to discover a lot of new things,to explore new ideas) • 6.to prefer reading (poetry, tales) • 7.a good way to relax and to spend free time in a useful way • 8. to captivate people with the thrilling plot

  5. Every country of the world has many popular, famous writers, poets • and some of them you know and read their books. What American and English writers do you know?

  6. Mark Twain • Mark Twain is one the famous American writers of the second half of the 19th century. His real name was Samuel Clemens. He spend his childhood in the small town on the Missisippi River. After his father’s death he went to work at the age of 12. For ten years he worked as a printer in many American towns. Then he worked on the ships on the Missisippi His first short story was published in 1867. • In1876 he published “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”in which he described the life of a boy in a Missisippi town. Mark Twain was a great ralist, a great story-teller with a fine sense of humour.

  7. William Shakespeare • William Shakespeare was one of the world’s greatest poets and playwrights. He was also an actor he was born in 1564. He wrote comedies, tragedies and other plays. And Shakespeare’ playwriting was recognized all over the world. His plays help the reader to be better, wiser and happier. I know some of his works for example “Romeo and Julie”, “Hamlet”, “King Lear” and others.

  8. One of you tells us about the character of the book and we' 11 guess who he is or who she is.

  9. Some of you don' t like to read books, you prefer to watch TV. Make up dialogues on these themes.

  10. Listen to the text and I want you to find out what writer is about. • Tell some words about this writer. P2 • Take the cards and put the marks V or X if the statements are true or false.

  11. Homework. Write a short story about our library.
