  3. Task 2: Identify 5 things important in your life. For example … • My family • My friends • God • My culture • My freedom • My job • My students • My education • My pets • The environment • My car/ bike / rollerblades … are important in my life!

Task 3: Identify 3 beliefs that you consider true and important Beliefs: Something accepted as true. • We should respect the teachings of Jesus and respect the church. • You should treat others as you want to be treated… Karma. • Each person as special talents that are unique to them, which they should share with the world. • You shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover • No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. • Grades are not important, it’s the effort that counts! • If at first you don’t succeed; try , try , try again For example: I believethat….

  6. Value: A moral standard or principle of behavior of a person or group; a personal or group judgment as to what is important or valuable in life. Task 5: For every group that you are a part of, identify a common value that you share. • Canadians: freedom to vote, freedom to express your opinions • First Nations, Mi’Kmaq: connection to nature • Acadian French: importance of family, Cajun music • The Banks/Marchand family: the joy of cooking • The Catholic Church: the importance of love • The University of Western Ontario Alumna: education • The staff & students at JPII: community, working together • Good Life Fitness Gym: health • The Ride to Conquer Cancer: health, helping others

  7. Identity: An individual’s perception of who he or she is; a sense of self. A person may have many identities, depending on the groups to which he or she belongs. Each of the groups to which you belong influences your personal identity… These groups help to define your identity by sharing their values and beliefs. There values and beliefs influence your behaviors and actions … Task 6: Choose 3 groups with whom you share values and identify how these values influence your actions.

  8. Group + Value= Action/Behavior • Latin Community: Value: The importance of family Action: Children do not move out of their parents home until they marry. Sometimes even after children marry, they still decide to live in the same home as their parents. • Catholics Value: Promotes the teaching on Jesus and the Bible. Catholics believe that Jesus is the son of God. Action: To commemorate the birth of Jesus, Catholics celebrate Christmas each year on December 25.

  9. Task 7 : For each of the three groups that influence your behavior, identify a group that does not have the same values and identify how their behavior is influenced differently. For example: The Jews do not believe in Jesus, therefore, they do not celebrate Christmas, or Easter.
