  2. The Three Zones • Arctic- Alaska is found in the arctic climate zone. • Tropical-Florida and Hawaii are found in the tropical climate zone. • Semiarid-Great Plains west of the Mississippi River are located in the Semiarid climate zone.

  3. Variation of Temperature & Rainfall • Arctic- Temperature: Ranges from 21 °F-65 °F and Rainfall: Ranges from 4 to 151 inches. • Tropical-Temperature: Ranges from 89 °F-53 °F and Rainfall: Ranges from 46.3 to 71 inches. • Semiarid- Temperature: Ranges from -3 °F to 110 °F and Rainfall: Averages 50cm per year.

  4. Typical Weather • Arctic-Weather can vary greatly. However, it is usually covered in ice and snow and tends to warm up quickly in the summer time. • Tropical- Thundershowers are a common occurrence. Summers are hot and humid and the winters weather can vary day to day. • Semiarid-Thunderstorms, droughts, blizzards, and tornados are all common. Winters can be painfully cold and summers painfully hot.

  5. Environments • Arctic-This type of climate consists of large mountains, volcanic regions, and is typically known as an ice cold tundra (full of ice and snow). For example, Alaska. • Tropical-This climate has a diverse array of land and marine life. Typically, this environment consist of wet or moist areas. For example, Florida. • Semiarid-A climate like this can have flat, fertile grassland. For example, the Great Plains.

  6. Vegetation in the Environments • Arctic-Low-growing plants, lichen, and moss can be found here. • Tropical- Consist of anything from small shrubs to large palm trees. • Semiarid- Land is great for farming and livestock but causes harsh weather. Many types of grasses are found here.

  7. Life in the Zones • Arctic- People living here rely on marine life to sustain there hunting, fishing, trapping, and gathering economy. They tend to be resourceful when using natural resources. They also usually live with cold, icy weather, except in the summer when the snow tends to warm up quickly. • Tropical- This type of climate is usually bearable for people. Plus, the land is also deprived of vegetation. • Semiarid- This climate is usually hot and dry year-round. The soil contains little surface water, which supports mainly shrubs and short, woody trees.
