  1. Gay Marriage – what does the Bible say about it? A Christian response to Homosexuals

  2. A Christian response to Homosexuals • Key passages • Leviticus 18:22 • Leviticus 20:13 • Romans 1:18-32 • 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 • 1 Timothy 1:8-10

  3. A Christian response to Homosexuals • Why the Prohibition? • Because it’s a ‘Creation violation’ – Romans 1:18f. • Key word = ‘exchange’ (v23, 25, 26) • Homosexual behaviour it’s wrong for all people not just Christians • it may well feel natural, but to practice it is still wrong • It’s a ‘kingdom Violation’ - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 • Homosexual behaviour is not compatible with the Kingdom of God • It’s a law violation - 1 Timothy 1:8. • Homosexual behaviour breaks the 7th command

  4. A Christian response to Homosexuals • What conclusion do we draw from these? • The Bible teaching is not a cultural knee jerk reaction to homosexual activity. • The prohibition is based on principles that transcend culture and time

  5. A Christian response to Homosexuals • How should the church respond to homosexuals? • There is no reason or place for rejection of people who struggle with homosexual temptation. • We must distinguish between the temptation and the action. • Homosexuals should be welcomed into the congregation and church Though like the rest of us they should do all they can to stop ‘sinning’

  6. A Christian response to Homosexuals • Conclusions: • God loves the sinner but hates the sin • Homosexual behaviour is not normal to God and not acceptable in the kingdom – any more than many other sins are • There is forgiveness in Christ • There should then be acceptance in the church www.truefreedomtrust.co.uk
