  1. Welcome to 6th Grade Math! August 29, 2014 Do Now: Choose one “About Me” worksheet and start filling it out. You get 5 minutes. You are at Voice Level 0.

  2. About You! • Tell me and the class about yourself! • Choose one fact off of your worksheet.

  3. About Me • Born in Hong Kong. • Grew up in Columbus, Ohio. • Attended The Ohio State University for college. • Went to American University for graduate school. • This is my second year at Paul. • I have a dog named Nyah.

  4. What’s our destination? College Graduation! … so how do we get there?

  5. How to be successful • Being Prepared • Always have at least two sharpened pencils (and a pencil sharpener) • 5-subject notebook • Homework and homework folder • Resource book

  6. How to be successful • Being on task • There is a lot of learning to be done here! • We want to make sure we make the best use of our time by staying on task. • As long as we stay on task 100% of the time, we can also have some time to celebrate!

  7. How to be successful • Practicing • Always do your homework • Take advantage of homework club • Be on task during class to ensure you practice before going home • Turn and Talk: Why is it important to practice?

  8. Grades • You will be graded based on homework completion, tests/quizzes, in-class practice/participation, and projects. • Homework will be worth 10 points each (every important part of your grade!) and only based on completion.

  9. Hierarchy of Consequences • Targeted Redirection • Verbal Warning • Reflection • Write-Up and Call Home What might earn you a consequence… • Calling out/talking when it is not your turn • Being off task • Not doing the work • Eating in class • Getting out of your seat without permission

Incentives - Individual • You will earn positive merit points each day if you come in… • Full uniform • Prepared • On time • You can also earn positive merit points by… • Following directions • Going above and beyond the work that is given • Giving thoughtful answers • Participating • Being a MERIT scholar • Helping a fellow scholar • Portraying the character trait of the month • And so much more!

  11. Hierarchy of Incentives • You can earn positive points in class by exemplifying those positive traits! • Positive points are tallied up and can be traded in for different incentives such as candy, pencils, choosing your own seat, homework passes, etc.!

  12. Hierarchy of Incentives • How it will work: • You will accumulate points every day and they will be added together at the end of the week. • You can only trade in points for incentives on Fridays. • Once you trade something in, it will be deducted from your total.

  13. Class Incentives • Your class has the opportunity to earn an incentive by completing a MAD LIB • Every class will have a MAD LIB. • You can add a word to the MAD LIB by earning 4/5 of Ms. Pang’s “Top 5” every day. • Top 5: • Everyone wason time. • Everyone completed their homework. • Everyone was in their seats the entire time. • Everyone was prepared. • Everyone was respectful.

  14. Class Incentives • Once your class completes the MAD LIB, you will earn a whole class incentive. • These incentives may be a treat, free time, dance party, board game party, etc.! • Turn and Talk: How can you keep yourself and your classmates accountable to ensure the class earns the incentive?

  15. Review • Scholar Position • Voice Levels • Hand Signals • 10/10 • Bathroom Passes: 3 per week in this class • If you go during notes, it is up to you to catch up and get the notes from a classmate without interrupting the lesson.
