  4. Overview of the Positions

  5. Resident Assistant (RA) The Resident Assistant • Each RA will be responsible for approximately ~40 students • Fulfil ‘on-call’ duties for the whole site where appropriate. • Duties include office hours, site mobile & after-hours response, peer mentoring, crisis management, and event planning

  6. Position RequirementsFor All Positions • Be a fully matriculated student in good academic standing at the University of Edinburgh • Good disciplinary standing within Accommodation Services. • Must have lived in shared university accommodation at the university level, preferably at the University of Edinburgh. • Be available for a full lease contract (9 months UG; 12 months PG) • Return to the University approximately 1 week before CUW to begin Training (tentatively 31 August 2012) • For UG posts, return by on the Friday before CUW in January 2013

  7. Understanding the RA Post • Time Commitment • The position is the principle non-academic activity • All staff are required to return to the accommodation at the beginning of Sept • 30 hours per month • After hiring, discuss outside jobs and significant time commitments with your line manager.

  8. Understanding the RA Post • Training/Induction • Attend all training sessions and in-services • Role model • Serve as a role model following all policies and procedures as outlined by Accommodation Services and the University • Professionalism is extremely important!

Understanding the RA Post • Teamwork • Work collaboratively with supervisor and other staff to meet the needs of students • Event Committee expectations • Administration • Complete various reports (including those related to event planning and timesheets) • Assist in Check-in & Welcome of students • Site meetings
