NHAI Introduces Aesthetic Lights to Glow Kota ‘Hanging Bridge’ Indian highways until now have been unable to cope up with the increasing size, weight, and number of vehicles. Congestion became commonplace with morning and evening rush hour traffic accumulating in narrow roads. Moreover, peak-hour traffic on bridges goes beyond the capacity of the general two-lane roads in India. Therefore, out of concern for the safety of the decaying bridge/ roads/ highways, construction of a new substitute is urgently needed. Focusing on the agenda, in the recent past, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a six-lane bridge over Chambal River in Kota, Rajasthan. This long-awaited ‘Hanging Bridge’ benefits the residents of Hadouti region of Rajasthan and also helps to ease the traffic congestion in Kota city. Union Minister of Roads Transport and Highways, Mr Nitin Gadkari mentions that the new hanging bridge connects 14 National Highways passing through seven states and 28 prime cities of India. Recently National Highway Authority of India introduces aesthetic light at the 6-lane cable bridge across the Chambal River and also offers musical experience to the commuters occasionally. NHAI customises the Public address cell also, now it doubles up the services as announcements and public guide during any discrepancy on the bridge. This bridge is part of the East-West Corridor of the Golden Quadrangle project of National Highway Authority of India. The Golden Quadrilateral project was launched in 2001 by ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It was undertaken by the National Highways Development Project and managed by National Highways Authority of India. The project is a network of highways connecting India’s four top metropolitan cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Mumbai – thus forming a quadrilateral. This long-awaited ‘Hanging Bridge’ bypasses the traffic of the Kota city and also links the highways of the east-west corridor of NHAI which connects seven states from Silchar in Assam to Porbandar in Gujarat. It is called the “Hanging Bridge” because a road stretch of 700 m is suspended in air with high-tension rebar cables. The Central government expressed hopes that the pace of development of the bridge expedites and the works generate employment for the locals.
The Hanging Bridge glows and drapes in different theme base light shows in the coming days. The bridge is expected to glow for eight hours each evening, and NHAI uses LED lights to keep the low consumption of the energy. The hanging bridge of Kota is becoming the spot for evening hangout for its aesthetic light-show. #Ministryofroadtransport #Highwaytraffic
