Roles • Roles are groups of system or target privileges, or both, created by Super Administrators. They can: • Limit target access through target privileges • Limit access to features through system privileges • Facilitate the further granting of privileges and roles • Be made up of: • System privileges • Targets • Target privileges • Other roles
Privileges • There are two categories of privileges in Grid Control: • System privileges • Target privileges
System Privileges • System privileges allow a user to perform systemwide operations. They are: • VIEWANYTARGET • ADDANYTARGET • USEANYBEACON • GRANTANYREPORTVIEWER • MONITORENTERPRISEMANAGER
Target Privileges • Target privileges allow a user to perform operations on a target. They are: • View • Operator • Startup • Shutdown • Edit properties • Full
Creating Roles • On the Grid Control home page, click Setup, and then click Roles.
Administrators • There are two types of Administrator accounts in Grid Control: • Super Administrator • Administrator
Creating Administrators • On the Grid Control home page, click Setup, and then click Administrators.
Maintaining Administrators • It is possible to change the properties of administrators such as: • Changing the password or e-mail address • Assigning or taking away: • Roles • System privileges • Targets • Target privileges
Preferences • Use the Preferences screen to administer the preferences for the current user: • General • Preferred Credentials • Notification: • My Rules • Public Rules • Schedule • Target Subtabs
Preferred Credentials • Preferred credentials simplify access to targets that you manage. Preferred credentials are set for the following target types: • Databases • Host • Listener
Setting Preferred Credentials • Preferred credentials can be set, modified, or deleted from the Preferred Credentials page.
Managing Target Subtabs • Customize Grid Control target subtabs to match your division of system responsibility.
Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface • The Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface (EM CLI) provides text-based access to the Grid Control functionality. It provides: • Integration with third-party or custom software via scripting • Management Repository data extraction for manipulation and reporting purposes • The EM CLI consists of two components: • EM CLI Client • EM CLI Oracle Management Service Extension
Setting Up the EM CLI • To set up EM CLI, perform the following steps: • Obtain the EM CLI kit from Oracle Technology Network (OTN). • Set the JAVA_HOME environment variable to ensure that it is part of your PATH. • Install the EM CLI Management Services Extension on the OMS machine. • Install the EM CLI Client on any machine on your network. • Run the “setup” verb from the EM CLI Client.
