  3. The 10,000-Hour Rule • What exactly is the 10,000-Hour Rule? • Who (from the book) met or surpassed 10,000 hours in his/her specific field? • What was the result of this time put in? • Have you met 10,000 hours in any specific area? • What successes have resulted from this?

  4. IQ • What is something interesting you learned about IQ in Outliers? • Do you think an individual’s IQ is an accurate assessment of his/her intelligence? Why or why not?

  5. Power and Planes • How does power distance correlate with plane crashes? • What ethnic theory does Gladwell propose regarding this matter?

  6. Rice Paddies and Math • How does Gladwell reveal parallels between making rice paddies and scoring high on math tests? • How might this apply to AP students?

  7. Summer Vacation • Why might summer vacation be disadvantageous to student achievement? • Would you give up your summer vacation if you knew it would lead to higher success? Why or why not?

  8. Review • Hopefully these discussions have helped you review for the test next class, but I advise that you skim through each chapter—important lines you highlighted, annotations you made, etc.—to further prepare for your assessment on Outliers. Be prepared to write! 
