Definition • Archetypes are the original pattern or model from which all things of the same kind are copied on or which they are based upon. • Archetypal criticism argues that archetypes determine the form and function of literary works, that a text's meaning is shaped by cultural and psychological myths.
P & P • Pride and Prejudice was written in the Victorian Era and it set the example for all romantic stories to follow. The novel was first published in 1813 in the beginning of the Era. • Jane Austen was part of the upper class; however, she refused to marry and defied the female stereotypes at that time.
