Setting effects 3 things in a story 1. CHARACTERS 2. PLOT 3. MOOD
CHARACTERS • Characters in a story live in and respond to their setting. For example: KatnissEverdeen is very effected by several settings in The Hunger Games. Her district, the Capitol, and the arena are three samples of the settings that we find her in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfmrPu43DF8
PLOT • Plot is effected by setting as well. When the setting changes the PLOT changes. The plot either moves forward or backwards in a flashback. Watch the following movie clip and notice that when the setting changes the plot moves forward. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6D8PAGelN8
MOOD • Mood is the feeling that the reader gets as they read. The reader may feel happy, sad, or scared. The setting helps to create this mood in the reader. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGPjGV5XZBc
When you study your I CAN’S… • Be sure to not only know the 3 things that setting effects, but also know WHAT THEIR RELATIONSHIP is. • CHARACTER…think of Katniss running to the Cornicopia. • PLOT…think of Dorothy going from her house to Munchkin Land. • MOOD…think of the Haunted Mansion and it’s spooky feeling that it gives to the audience.
