Calgary Board of Education Governance Structure • Governed by a Board of seven elected Trustees • Chief Superintendent reports to Trustees. • Administrative Regulations/Executive Limitations • Public Board meetings (webtour cbe trustees website)

School Councils & CBE • School Councils are an instrumental part of the public education system and are mandated by Alberta Education in the School Act http://www.qp.alberta.ca/574.cfm?page=s03.cfm&leg_type=Acts&isbncln=9780779733941) . • In the CBE, Administrative Regulation 5001 provides guidance on how school councils and principals can effectively work together for the betterment of students. http://www.cbe.ab.ca/policies/policies/AR5001.pdf • The regulation provides clear direction to principals and school councils on their relationship around issues of SC finances, reporting and accountability of funds received by the school council and school and the CBE’s appeal process.
Key Communicators • Key Communicators are an important link for the CBE. • Every two weeks, I send out an email newsletter informing KCs on new system developments. • Your feedback is always welcome and encouraged as we want to know how parents feel about our system and the issues we face. • It is expected that the Key Communicator share the information received at meetings and through the Key Communiqué (web tour)
