What Web Developers Do • Integrate graphics, audio, and video into a website • Meet w/ clients or management to discuss what the website will be, what It’ll contain and how it’s layout • Create and debug applications for a website • Write code for the site, using programming languages (HTML & XML)

  3. Work Environment • 302, 300 jobs available in 2010 • About 17% were self-employed in 2010 • Work full time Other Types of Web Developers: • Web Architects or Programmers • Web Designers • Webmasters

Certifications/Qualifications • High school diploma to a bachelor’s degree but employers prefer at least a bachelor’s in computer science, programming or a related field • Employers also prefer they have a computer degree and classes in graphic design Must Have: • Through understanding of HTML

Certifications/Qualifications • Know other languages such as JavaScript or SQL • Knowledge of multimedia publishing tools such as Flash • Concentration- long periods of time sitting at a computer & writing detailed code • Creativity-sites looking innovative & up to date • Teamwork- work well with different types of employees to accomplish their goals

  6. Employment • Employment of web developers is expected to grow as ecommerce continues to grow as well • Employment for info security analysts, web developers, and computer network architects is projected to grow 22% from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations

  7. Job Outlook • Because websites can be built from anywhere in the world, some web developers jobs may be moved to countries w/ lower wages, lessoning U.S job growth. This practice could decline because of a growing trend of firms hiring workers in low-cost areas of the U.S instead of foreign countries • Their prospects should also be favorable • Those w/ more knowledge of programming tools and digital multimedia tools will have the best opportunities

  8. Earnings • Web developers make between $61,250 and $99,250 in 2012 according to Robert Half Technology

  9. Summary Slide Researching this job was very interesting. I like the pay it offers, but I’d rather have a job to where I’m happy doing what I do, not just because of the money I earn. Money doesn’t buy happiness. Although this job does seem fun and cool, I still want to accomplish on being a mental therapist when I grow up
