  1. Men - Pleasers VS God - Pleasers

  2. Whom do we seek to please ? • Eph 6:6-7 Not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: • Col 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God

  3. What is “Eye – Service”? • The outward show of service, in order to impress others-a form of deception condemned by the apostle Paul • Eph 6:5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ

  4. What is “singleness of heart”? • All of mankind has a way of thinking that they follow, religion is not different in this regard. Man considers religion by a standard whether correct or incorrect. • That standard determines what we do, how we do it and when we do it. • It can be based on what people have told us, our own imaginations or the Bible.

  5. What God Looks For …. • First time singleness is used in Bible • Acts 2:46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, • Let’s notice some things the early church practiced …….

  6. Early Christian’s Practices Acts 2:42-46 • They were obviously devoted in service • They kept God’s commands carefully • They prayed fervently and regularly • They remembered the Lord’s death • There was no discord or strive • They considered others rather than self • They were thankful and happy serving God • There was no artificial service in them

  7. Compared to religions of today • Great amounts of strife and divisions exist • No common grounds for belief (Bible is not their standard for their creeds) • Prayer is often for show • God’s commands are scoffed at by the majority of the religious world without hesitation • Greatest consideration is self gratification • Most service is self serving to please the masses • God is important to them only after pleasing self

  8. Does it really matter ? • Acts 20:17-20 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. • 18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons, • 19 Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: • 20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house

  9. Does it really matter ? • Acts 26:7 Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews. • Rom 12:11-12 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

  10. Was it always this way? • Titus 3:3-5 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

  11. Let ours learn …… • Titus 3:14 And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful • 2 Peter 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. • The early church had virtue, DO WE
