  14. Raises for Continuing FacultyNominal (not inflation adjusted)

  15. What about purchasing power? Urban Consumer Price Index for Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Region

  16. Urban Consumer Price Index for Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Region • 2002 1.4% • 2003 2.9% • 2004 2.8% • Total 2002-2004: up 7.2% (compounded) • FIU Raises 2002-2004: 5.7% Faculty not getting special merit lost 4.7%

  17. Are we all in it together? In 2002-2003, the average FIU faculty raise was 4.1% (2.5% plus 1.6% special merit). That year: • The average raise of the academic deans was 8.5% • The Provost’s raise was 12.2% • The President’s raise was 41.1%

  18. Other factors to consider • Salary comparisons are as of 2003. When this year’s data is out FIU will fare worse because other Universities got reasonable increases this year. • FIU raises do not go into effect at the start of the academic year. If that is taken into account we fare worse.
