  7. January • Race Relations Act • Then DatukSeri Najibsays that sensitive and racial statements made by one or two Umno members did not reflect the general views of the party leadership.

  8. February • Worst concern in a public poll: 1st economy, 2nd race related. • Ethnic relations module was not given due importance in public universities due to lack of commitment from many universities’ top management.

  9. March • DatukSeri Najib Abdul Razak states that he favours a return to the original New Economic Policy vision of improving conditions for the poor of all ethnic groups and not only the Malays.

  11. May • Racial segregation and polarisation of the education sector. • An Indian Muslim association continues its bid to remove the insulting word "keling" from the KamusDewan despite losing its appeal in the High Court.

  12. June • Biro Tata Negara (BTN) orientation courses are criticised for creating racial discord.

  13. July • The result of a poll shows youths are more likely to support a multiracial party that represented the interests of all Malaysians regardless of religion or race. • UmnoYouth leader KhairyJamaluddin says that "ketuananMelayu" or Malay supremacy did not exist but Malay leadership is an indisputable fact.

  14. August • Controversy over Selangor PAS’s proposal to ban the sale of beer in stores in Muslim majority areas. • DPM Tan Sri MuhyiddnYassin slams certain Malays in the Opposition as "traitors" for sacrificing their race for political expediency.

  15. September • Director-General of the National Unity and Integration Department DatukAzmanAmin Hassan reveals the department had developed an early warning system on racial conflict, in which districts were colour coded, with "red" areas being the most prone to strife.

  16. October • UniversitiMalaya Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim lashes out against the existence of various streams of schools.

  17. November • The Selangor government bars its employees and students at state owned higher learning institutions from attending courses organised by BTN.

  18. December The demonstrators of the "cow head incident" are charged at the Shah Alam sessions court for sedition, taking part in an illegal assembly and wounding the feelings of Hindus.
