  3. 1325-Aztecs founded city of Tenochtitlan which today is Mexico city.

  4. November 1519 The first Spanish arrive to Tenochtitlan and are well received by Moctezuma II.

  5. November 1519 Montezuma is taken prisoner. May 1521 The Spanish start to take control of the Aztec population. August 1521 The fall of Tenochtitlan.

  6. Colonial Times 1524-1810 Spanish establish Nueva España and set up viceroyalty.

  7. Map of Nueva España now known as Mexico. Nueva España colonized.

  8. 1800-1810 First meetings to conspire against the viceroyship.

  9. “Gachupines” took control of the land, they formed Haciendas and “indios” became slave.

  10. September 1810 September 16 Father Miguel Hidalgo sounds the bells of the church in Dolores Hidalgo. He gathers “mestizos”, “indios”, and “criollos”. The war against the viceroy ship begins.

  11. Mexico’s independence was recognized in 1821.

  12. ¡Viva Mexico!! ¡Tierra y Libertad!
