  1. Academy Algebra II 4.2: Building Linear Functions From Data HW: p.290-291(3-8 all,18 – by hand,20 – calc) Bring your graphing calculator to class on Monday Unit 2 Test: Wednesday (3.1,3.2,2.2,2.3,2.5,4.2)

  2. 4.2: Do Now: Determine whether the relationship between the two variables is linear or nonlinear. 1. 2. 3. 4.

  3. Sketch a scatter plot by hand. Draw and find the equation of the line of best fit.

  4. Scatter plot & LOBF by hand. Apparent Temperature Relative Humidity

  5. Sketch a scatter plot using TI-89. Press APPS, select Data/Matrix Editor. 3: New. Type: Data, Folder: Main. Variable (make up a name). ENTER, ENTER. Enter data in c1 and c2. Press F2 for Plot Setup. F1 for Define. Plot type: Scatter, Mark: Box, x = type c1 in this box ALPHA )1, y = c2. ENTER, ENTER.

  6. Sketch a scatter plot using TI-89. Display the Y= by pressing <green diamond> F1. Clear any existing equations in y1, y2, etc. Adjust window and view graph of scatter plot. -or- press F2, select 9: ZoomData

  7. Sketch a scatter plot using TI-89. Press APPS, select Data/Matrix Editor. 1: Current. Press F5 for Calc menu. Calculation type: LinReg. x = c1, y = c2. Store RegEq to: y1(x). Press ENTER to save. A screen will appear with the equation (write this down if you want the equation). Press ENTER and this equation will automatically go in y1 for the graph. Press <green diamond> F3 to view LOBF.

  8. Sketch a scatter plot using TI-83/84. Press STAT, select Edit. If needed, clear lists: arrow up to highlight L1, press CLEAR and ENTER. Enter data into L1 and L2. Turn plots on/off – STATPLOT: Press 2nd Y= for Statplot. Select Plot 1. Turn Plot on, X list: L1, Y list: L2.

  9. Sketch a scatter plot using TI-83/84. Display the Y= by pressing Y=. Clear any existing equations in y1, y2, etc. Adjust window and view graph of scatter plot. -or- press ZOOM and select 9: ZoomStat.

  10. Sketch a scatter plot using TI-83/84. Press STAT, arrow over to CALC, select 4:LinReg – press 2nd 1 to select L1, type a comma, press 2nd 2 to select L2, type a comma, press VARS, arrow over to Y-VARS, select Function, select Y1. Press ENTER. A screen will appear with the equation (write this down if you want the equation). The equation will automatically go into y1. Press GRAPH to view LOBF.
