  1. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map Recommendation: A key component of the geospatial platform must be an integrated set of foundational data layers for the nation. The National Map represents the primary existing effort to provide this service. TNM should focus on providing this foundational data, across a wide range of scales, as its primary purpose, in partnership with an array of data providers in accordance with A-16. The foundational layers should align with the FGDC Framework, with the exception of geographic names.

  3. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map Recommendation: What does this mean? A key component of the geospatial platform must be an integrated set of foundational data layers for the nation. The National Map represents the primary existing effort to provide this service. 4. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map Providinga base map for the United States should be TNM’s primary job; creating topo map products should be secondary. Recommendation: A key component of the geospatial platform must be an integrated set of foundational data layers for the nation. The National Map represents the primary existing effort to provide this service. TNM should focus on providing this foundational data, across a wide range of scales, as its primary purpose, in partnership with an array of data providers in accordance with A-16. 5. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map The base map for the nation isn’t solely a 1:24,000 scale product. Recommendation: A key component of the geospatial platform must be an integrated set of foundational data layers for the nation. The National Map represents the primary existing effort to provide this service. TNM should focus on providing this foundational data, across a wide range of scales, as its primary purpose, in partnership with an array of data providers in accordance with A-16. 6. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map • Geodetic control • Elevation • Orthoimagery • Hydrography • Administrative units (boundaries) • Transportation • Cadastral (parcels), Geographic names Recommendation: A key component of the geospatial platform must be an integrated set of foundational data layers for the nation. 7. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map • Reconciling TNM to FGDC: • Add parcels • Remove buildings? • Keep geographic names, even though they’re not in FGDC’s framework Recommendation: A key component of the geospatial platform must be an integrated set of foundational data layers for the nation. 9. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map Recommendation: Parcelsshould be incorporated as one of TNM’s base data layers. A lead agency or agencies should be identified as federal integrator(s) of parcel data.

  10. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map However, under current conditions not all states and counties share their parcel data. HUD and BLM? Recommendation: Parcelsshould be incorporated as one of TNM’s base data layers. A lead agency or agencies should be identified as federal integrator(s) of parcel data.

  11. National Geospatial Advisory Committee Subcommittee on The National Map Scale Figuring out the scale issue is a future topic of discussion for the TNM Subcommittee What scales? How comprehensive would data be across these scales? Would TNM produce templates at key scales and invite stakeholders to contribute their data?
