  2. Resumo • Introdução • Estrutura • Consórcio • Arquitectura • Objectivos • Motivação • Ponto de Partida

  3. Introdução • ICT-2007-216462-STREP • Data Início: Março 2008; Duração: 24 meses • Consórcio: 12 Parceiros • Budget=3,7 m€ ; Esforço= 548,7 PM • Foco Principal: • Provide end-to-end context-aware multicast framework and communication • Áreas de interesse: • Business models, requirements, usage scenarios for C-CAST services • Context casting service enablers & context management • Context detection and context-aware multiparty transport • Content creation, storage, distribution • Proof of Concept : simulations and demonstration

  6. Arquitectura Alto-Nível • Evolve mobile multicasting to exploit the increasing integration of mobile devices with our everyday physical world and environment.

  7. WLAN Mobile Devices PAN Execution Environments NGN Converged Core Network 3G RFID 4G WSN sensor Móveis...SistemasUbiquous Location presence Disappearing computer multi- media, multi- cast data Ubiquitous Pervasive Computing video context aware voice seamless mobility Smart environments Services, Enablers & Applications

  8. Mobile SystemsScope Mobile Systems:Concerned with exploiting the connectedness of portable devices Concepts • Location Management • update (I am here) • paging (where are you) • Roaming Management • Handover Management (seamless mobility)

  9. Ubiquitous SystemsScope Ubiquitous Systems:Concerned with exploiting the increasing integration of computing devices with our everyday physical world Concepts • Context awareness • Sensing, actuation, adaptation • Smart spaces & environments

  10. Project Scope • The scope of problem solving, sensing and context awareness is narrowed to a more specific activity. • Key competence areas: • Multicast-Broadcast Multimedia Services and Communication • Service Enablers and context-awareness

  11. Sensing the Multicast & Broadcast Opportunities

  12. Principal Objectivo Research, investigate & define ways to use the situation/environment of a user (a mobile device) to initiate group communication. This environment mediated multicast may be triggered by an event or something in the physical environment offering a situation or context orientated service.

  14. Context-Aware Interactive TV Step0: • Ralf and Rainer are both subscribed to the “Sports” channel. • Bob and Alice are both subscribed to the News and Alice is watching the News in German. Step1: • Ralf (a C-Mobile user) and Rainer (a “legacy” user) are in the center of the cell and both subscribe and join the sports group. The quality is good. Then both move to the border of the cell. The quality is decreased as expected but in Ralf’s terminal it does not decrease as expected due to the C-Mobile RAN enhancement (multiresolution scheme). Step2: • Bob joins the German News Group but due to his preferred language he receives a notification saying that News in English are available. Step3: • After News, Euromax Starts giving the latest videoclips. During the first promoting videoclip voting is running and Bob votes for the next videoclip. The next videoclip on the playlist will be the one chosen by Bob. . IMS Workshop Berlin

  15. Content Casting Step0: Subscription • Rainer and Ralf subscribe to both “Latest News” and “Cultural”. Step1: Network Initiated • At the city centre cafe they receive a Germain band music (under the Cultural Service). Therefore the platform initiates a session to deliver that content. • When they move to the airport an English music becomes available. The platform initiates a session to deliver that content. Step2: User Initiated • Since both have subscribed to the “Latest News”; once new news become available they are notified and explicitly join the session to receive the news; either in German or in English based on the profile. Step3: Recommendation • Jan subscribes to Fun Channel. Then he uses a web access to recommend a new service “FunChannel” to Eve. A message is sent to her and since she finds it interesting she subscribes to that new service. Step4: User Generated Content • Jan uses a web access to create a “personal podcast” and upload his own files. Then any user who has subscribed can have access to Jan’s created content. Recommendation can also be sent for the service. IMS Workshop Berlin

  16. Target Scenarios • University environment where large groups are stepped through certain situations or activities. • Group games based on the environment. Sensing environmental artefacts can participate in the game and users move through the fabric of the environment (through arches, side-streets, enter buildings, down subways) • Virtual Tour Scenario: suitable for an historic town centre. Assemble and register. Be multimedia multicast stepped through the tour as a group. Interact with buildings and artefacts on the way.
