    2. 2 I. Background Statements of Significance A. Joe Kusco - Washington Redskins B. President Bobby Gunn - Robert E. Lee High School C. William Newell - Purdue University D. Otho Davis - Duke University/Eagles E. President Frank George - Brown University F. President Jerry Rhea - Texas A & M/Falcons G. Larry Starr - Ohio University/Reds/Marlins/Nova

    3. 3 Mr. Joe Kusco - Early NFL Trainer "Trainers (athletic) do not actually train athletes in our country. Trainers (athletic) in our league protect their overall health and injury status to enable others (coaches) to train them to play their game."

    4. 4 Bobby Gunn, A.T., C. and C.C.T., #1 "We are the only group that is really greatly concerned with the players overall health. It is a lot more than joints. Whatever healthcare this group doesn't get from me, they are not going to get."

    5. 5 William Newell, A.T., C. and R.P.T. "We have to worry about the team members overall fitness and playing status, not just the ankles. Our charge is to help athletes return from accidents and illness, as well as athletic injuries."

    6. 6 Otho Davis, A.T., C. (in consort with Bobby Gunn) "This document (D.B.) will greatly improve the health care of all of American athletes, particularly those in scholastic sport activities. Outside of District 6 (Arkansas and Texas) there is no one assigned to monitor the overall care of school aged athletes."

    7. 7 Frank George, A.T., C. and R.P.T. (#2) "Most of you and probably every one of you are practicing general medicine without a license whether you want to admit it or not. You aren't only in violation of your therapy acts, you are breaking the laws regulating- family practice, emergency medicine, nursing, and general practice."

    8. 8 Jerry Rhea, A.T., C. (#5) "These people don't talk like Texans. If they can't speak English well enough to tell me what hurts, I am sending them to one of you internal medicine education specialists."

    9. 9 Larry Starr, A.T., C., V.P. "If a professional baseball player is looking for me at 9:00 a.m. in the morning, he is one sick _________ of a _______. It is not a sore elbow."
