What is it • Viral disease that first enters the lymph system, then the blood, and finally effects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, and central nervous systems . • Threatens • Domestic dogs • Raccoons • Coyotes • Foxes • Skunks • Weasels
Etiology • Closely related to measles and renderpest virus in that they are in the paramyxoviridae family • Single stranded negative RNA that can cause a systematic infection to its host
Wildlife effected • Young with weak immune systems are most susceptible. • Can be transmitted from species to species through infected nose and eye secretions, urine, feces and even food and water than have been exposed. • Not considered a threat to humans.
