HISTORY • The sport of Floorball evolved from ice hockey. • British soldiers invented modern ice hockey in the 1950's, while stationed in Canada. • The first organized indoor hockey games took place in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1962. • Tim Harter is responsible for refining the rules of the game. • The sport is popular among both boys and girls, and there are many teams, leagues and events centered around the sport.

  3. FLOORBALL EQUIPMENT • Goals • Plastic hockey sticks • Plastic goalie sticks • Balls • Pinnies

HOW TO PLAY • There are 5 field players and 1 goalie • Game play initiates with a faceoff at the middle of the centerline • Game length is 3- 8 minute periods with a 5 minute break between each period • Points are scored by the ball being advanced into the opponents goal; after each goal a faceoff occurs to continue game play • At the end of the 3-8 minute periods

FLOORBALL SAFETY • In a regulation game of Floorball, players must wear athletic attire; it is recommended that the goalie wears gloves. • Be aware of your special surroundings when swinging your Floorball stick • Playing area needs to be debris free • Remember to communicate with your teammates on the field

  8. DRIBBLING Advancing the ball using a short quick rolling motion while keeping the ball in contact with the stick and the floor  

  9. PASSING Moving the ball to a teammate by using a pushing motion to pass short distances and avoiding backswing by keeping the stick on the floor, using a sweeping action

  10. RECEIVING Trapping the ball by tilting the blade preventing it from rebounding away, one touch with your foot is allowed but it must touch your stick immediately after

  11. GOALTENDING Preventing the ball from entering the goal by blocking shots with the hand, body, foot, or stick, the body should remain low moving from side to side GOALTENDING VIDEO

  12. INTERCEPTION When the defense steals the ball from the offense, this can only be done without touching another players stick (no stick to stick contact) or putting your stick between your opponents feet

  13. FACE OFF Occurs when the game begins and after a goal is scored; Two opposing centers face each other, holding their sticks on the floor and the ball is dropped between them; each player tries to gain control of the ball FACEOFF VIDEO

  14. FREE HIT A free hit is given if an opponent raises stick above waist level, hits, blocks, lifts, and/or kicks another stick or places their stick between the feet of an opponent   FREE HIT VIDEO

  15. HIT IN When the ball goes out of bounds a hit-in is awarded to the non offending team HIT IN VIDEO

  16. NON-OFFENDING TEAM Team whose player or player’s equipment last touched the ball before it went out of bounds

  17. GRIP Place the left hand (the right hand for left-handed students) on top of stick as if shaking hands, place the right hand slightly below the left, point thumbs toward the blade

  18. HIGH-STICKING When a player intentionally plays with the stick above their opponent’s waist
