  2. What role do women play in philanthropy? • Women control more than half the private wealth in the US • Women make 80 percent of the purchases in the US • Women will inherit 70 percent of the $41 trillion in transferred wealth over the next forty years in the US

  3. Causes Women Support • Improving the quality of life for girls and women • Empowerment of women and girls • Making positive changes in communities around the world • Leveraging charitable dollars • Encouraging youth in philanthropy • Shared/collaborative experiences • Understanding how the organizations work

  4. How Women Give • Giving circles : • More than 400 registered • Majority are run by/for women • Women’s funds, donor advised funds • Foundations: • Local, national, international • Monthly giving • More loyal donors (10x more loyal)

  5. Women in Philanthropy Careers • The majority of workers in the nonprofit sector (73 percent) are women • More than 60 percent of fundraising professionals in the US are women • Women account for 43 percent of the board seats among all nonprofits • Women make up 45 percent of the CEOs at nonprofits

  6. Women and Legacy Giving • More women inherit wealth because they live longer than men; the majority of legacy gifts come from women although the source of that wealth is often the combined income of men and women.
